Gurumurthy Kalyanaram Reports on MIT's discovery of a device that may replace injecction-needles

Gurumurthy Kalyanaram - We may soon be able to avoid prickly and painful needles to inject medicines -- thanks to discovery by MIT scientists and engineers.   MIT researchers have developed a robust device that delivers a tiny, high-pressure jet of medicine through the skin without the use of a hypodermic needle.   It appears that the device can be programmed to deliver a range of doses to various depths — an improvement over similar jet-injection systems that are now commercially available.

According to MIT announcement, "The researchers say that among other benefits, the technology may help reduce the potential for needle-stick injuries; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that hospital-based health care workers accidentally prick themselves with needles 385,000 times each year. A needleless device may also help improve compliance among patients who might otherwise avoid the discomfort of regularly injecting themselves with drugs such as insulin" Gurumurthy Kalyanaram Lawsuit

Gurumurthy Kalyanarm Reports: Professor Suresh Mony's Essay on Research Productivity in India

Gurumurthy Kalyanaram - We often hear this lament in academic, educational and governmental circles that “Research standards in India are poor” and that unless we improve the research culture, we will be not able to be on par with the advanced nations. The best of our universities do hardly any research which is reflected in the fact that there is no Indian institution in the top 200. Rather than mouth inane explanations, a dispassionate analysis of research output bench marked with the leading nations would be in order.
